Wales for Africa Grant Scheme: previous years

In the first two years of the Wales for Africa Grant Scheme grant scheme, activities were supported which would:

  • encourage international disaster preparedness in Wales and enable and support volunteering at appropriate time of disaster;
  • support diaspora communities in Wales and their efforts to respond to international disasters in their homeland;
  • build the capacity of small Welsh International Development NGOs (non-government organisations) and aid the co-ordination of the sector as a whole in order to strengthen Wales’ impact on Millennium Development Goal delivery; and,
  • build effective links between communities in Wales and sub-Saharan Africa.

In 2008-09, 58 applications were received. Grants were awarded, by an assessment panel, to 11 projects/activities, totaling just under £240,000.

In 2009-10, 13 initiatives were funded, totalling £268,000.
